La fase ϕ (phi) indica la posizione che il ciclo dell'onda occupa in un determinato istante. Su una singola onda non è udibile, ma diventa cruciale sommando due o più onde: a seconda della relazione di fase il risultato può rinforzarsi (in fase), attenuarsi o annullarsi (controfase).

Phase (denoted by ϕ, phi) indicates the position of a wave cycle at a given moment or position. On a single wave it isn't audible, but it becomes significant when two or more waves are summed. Depending on their phase relationship, the result can constructive or destructive interference. If the two waves are identical except in phase, the resultant sum can reinforce, attenuate, or cancel completely.
