What is the ADSR envelope?
The dynamic envelope is the evolution of an instrument's volume from excitation to when the sound fades. A violin bow can create a sound that arises gradually whereas a snare hit is almost instantaneous. On electronic instruments, this dynamic envelope is schematized into four stages known as ADSR: Attack, Decay, Sustain, Release.
