Cos'è il theremin?
Il theremin è uno strumento musicale elettronico, il più antico conosciuto che non preveda contatto fisico dell'esecutore. Fu inventato nel 1919 dal fisico sovietico Lev Sergeevič Termen (noto in Occidente come Léon Theremin). Si basa su oscillatori in isofrequenza fuori dallo spettro udibile: la presenza delle mani del musicista nel campo d'onda ne altera le caratteristiche e produce, sul principio del battimento, suoni nelle frequenze udibili.
What is the theremin?
The theremin is an electronic musical instrument, the oldest known one that doesn't require physical contact between performer and instrument. Invented in 1919 by Soviet physicist Lev Sergeyevich Termen (known in the West as Léon Theremin), it uses oscillators working in isofrequency outside the audible spectrum: the musician's hands in the wave field alter their behavior, producing sounds within the audible range through the principle of beating.
